ERIC Update on Improving Algebra Education - May 2015

Improving Algebra Education - A Stepping Stone to a Future in STEM

Algebra knowledge and skills are part of a solid foundation in mathematics that can support students towards advanced mathematics learning. Students who take rigorous algebra courses score higher on the National Assessment for Educational Progress and are more likely to progress to higher levels of mathematics than students who did not take rigorous courses. Algebra knowledge has also been associated with better long-term academic and professional outcomes, including graduation from college and careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
You can find more than 960 resources in ERIC related to algebra, including about 700 peer-reviewed and nearly 150 full-text materials.
The articles below highlight efforts to improve the quality of algebra instruction in middle and high school.
