The Cambridge companion to Christian political theology / edited by Craig Hovey and Elizabeth Phillips.

Interest in political theology has surged in recent years, and this accessible volume provides a focused overview of the field. Many are asking serious questions about religious faith in secular societies, the origin and function of democratic polities, worldwide economic challenges, the shift of Christianity's centre of gravity to the global south, and anxieties related to bold and even violent assertions of theologically determined political ideas. In fourteen original essays, authors examine Christian political theology in order to clarify the contemporary discourse and some of its most important themes and issues. These include up-to-date, critical engagements with historical figures like Augustine, Thomas Aquinas, and Immanuel Kant; discussions of how the Bible functions theopolitically; and introductions to key movements such as liberation theology, Catholic social teaching, and radical orthodoxy. An invaluable resource for students and scholars in theology, the Companion will also be beneficial to those in history, philosophy, and politics.

Part I, The shape of contemporary political theology: European political theology / J├╝rgen Moltmann -- Liberation theology / Miguel A. de la Torre -- Public theology / Hak Joon Lee -- Catholic social teaching / Lisa Sowle Cahill -- Protestant social ethics / D. Stephen Long -- Postliberalism and radical orthodoxy / Daniel M. Bell, Jr. -- Postcolonial theology / Susan Abraham. Part II, Contemporary questions in political theology: Scripture / Christopher Rowland -- Augustinianisms and Thomisms / Eric Gregory and Joseph Clair -- Liberalism and democracy / Craig Hovey -- Capitalism and global economics / Philip Goodchild -- Political theology as threat / William T. Cavanaugh -- Good rule / Peter J. Leithart -- Eschatology and apocalyptic / Elizabeth Phillips.

Online Catalogue not Available Friday Evening

As with last weekend, our online catalogue will be down again for a few hours  Friday, October 30 starting at 8:00PM to rebuild a huge batch of records.  It is expected that the downtime will be less than 2 hours and should not effect other library databases.

Online catalogue not available Saturday evening

Alloway Library's online eLibrary will be unavailable starting at 6:00 PM  this Saturday (October 24.) Our software is scheduled for an extensive rebuild of all items in the catalogue and  it will take several hours to complete.

"It's the first time we've done this and I'm hoping everything will run smoothly and the system will come back up as it's supposed to," noted Alloway Library's System Administrator Shirley Lee. She anticipates that the library catalogue will be accessible again by Sunday morning.

This rebuild is required in order to activate time-saving features which will enable staff to search for and modify items in the collection using various characteristics such as item type, category, location, and circulation activity.

Other databases, including JSTOR, EBSCOhost and others will not be affected during this upgrade of the library's catalogue.

Word count, page count... Tree count!

PaperCut is the print management system used by students in Alloway Library and elsewhere on the TWU campus.  It saves students the bother of buying and maintaining a printer in their dorm room and allows them to print from any library workstation for just 8 cents per page.

It also has a cool dashboard that shows the environmental impact of printing. To find out about one aspect of your academic carbon footprint,  click on the  Environmental Dashboard link on the bottom of your PaperCut summary interface.
Clicking on it displays an infographic that summarizes how much of a tree you have used and, how many trees TWU  has used since 2006.
According to a recent summary of the past 9 years, TWU PaperCut users, (nearly all TWU students) have consumed in paper, a grove of 13 trees. Or, in other terms, created a carbon footprint similar to the energy use of an average house for 9 months.

Find out more about printing at Alloway Library's FAQ page.
